The Farmer’s Office
Tools, Tips and Templates to Successfully Manage a Growing Farm Business
by Julia Shanks
I’m an easy audience for books like The Farmer’s Office. They bring me such great joy.
On one hand, I believe that understanding your numbers is where farm profitability and sustainability begin.
I also love systems and keeping track of things
The Farmer’s Office delivers on all these fun topics.
And the books starts with a flow chart of how to use this book!!! (When a book starts with a flow chart, you know you’re in for a good time.)
What really made me swoon was in Chapter 2 about basic accounting. There was a table illustrating the relationships between the statement of cash flow, the income statement, and the balance sheet. I had never seen these 3 elements visually presented that way. It blew my mind.
But it is the clarity and ease with which Julia tackles farm accounting and office management that elevates the Farmer’s Office above other great farm finance books to make my Top 10 list.
Now I don’t know how you feel about numbers or book-keeping. But if you spend some serious time with this book, your farm will do better.
