FSA Tip #18 UNIQUE – My Favourite Formula

Often, you wind up with a spreadsheet that is a long list made up of the same things repeated over and over.

This might happen with your harvest records for the season where there there is a row for each crop you harvested from each day you were harvesting.

You might only grow 30-40 crops but by the end of the season your harvest records that are hundreds or thousands of rows long.

It would be nice to get a summary of what is on that list.

This brings us to my favourite formula:

UNIQUE!

In this tip, we’ll see …

  • How to use the UNIQUE formula to make a summary list of each item that appears in a longer list.
  • How to use the SORT formula to present that list in alphabetical order.
  • How to extend UNIQUE to cover multiple columns

You can get the spreadsheet from this tip to follow along at home.

What is your favourite formula?
