I am the Cosmos that wouldn’t bloom in July when the early flowers were heavy in the field.
I am the Cosmos that wouldn’t bloom in August, when all the other Cosmos thought it was time.
I am the Cosmos that wouldn’t bloom in September when everyone worries about early frosts that can cut short the most beautiful gardens
I am the Cosmos that waited until early October to open a tentative bud, to peek out with a few curious pink petals, to consider meeting this world
I am the Cosmos that stands tallest in a garden on the edge of November, of dead plants gone to seed, of fading green and of lingering calendula; here are my blooms

I am the seed saver who will not have any seeds to save from these blooms so late in the season
I am the seed saver in awe of this stubborn plant that just didn’t feel like it, until it did
I am the seed saver, grateful for a last wave of colour to emerge before it all goes to sleep

Beautiful. I had two sea shells Cosmos this week show up.
We are still full of tagetes erecta marigolds for the holidays and the blue flowering tradescantia, but the red burgundy okra is finally done flowering.
Sounds like some beautiful end of season guests!
