Farmer Book Club: 10 Seeds

Ten Seeds by Ruth Brown is a book about the value of starting with good seed.

The unnamed narrator starts with 10 sunflower seeds. And recklessly sows all 10 into the garden, holding none back in case they need to reseed the crop.

The 10 seeds are faced with a number of challenges as they try to become a flower. These include Pigeons, slugs, aphids, and tennis balls.

If you have not yet worked through this book, you should stop here to avoid spoilers.

In the end one seed produces a flower which then goes to seed, leaving the narrator with another 10 seeds to plant in the coming year.

This book is testament to the power of good germination rates and in the faith of living things.
